The process that led to the creation of Bumiputra-Commerce Bank spanned some 75 years.
A history that speaks of a pioneering spirit in Malaysia's banking landscape and of synergistic achievements. 1924 A family bank is set up in Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia 1956 The bank is incorporated as Bian Chiang Bank Ltd 1965 Bank Bumiputra Malaysia Berhad is established to specifically provide credit facilities to the Bumiputera community to help increase their particiapation in the Malaysian economy 1972 United Asian Bank Berhad (UAB) is established in Kuala Lumpur as a result of the merger of three Indian-owned banks-Indian Overseas Bank Ltd, Indian Bank Ltd and United Commercial Bank Ltd 1975 Fleet Group Sdn. Bhd acquires Bain Chiang Bank's entire equity 1978 Morgan Guaranty International Finance Corp (MGI), a subsidiary of Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York, acquires a 30 per cent stake in Bian Chiang Bank 1979 Bian Chiang Bank is renamed Bank Of Commerce and the company's headquarters moves from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur 1986 The Fleet Group buys MGI's entire stake in Bank of Commerce. The bank acquires a 51 per cent stake in Pertanian Baring Sanwa Bhd and renames it Commerce International Merchant Bank Berhad (CIMB) 1987 Pitisan Sdn. Bhd, a subsidiary of The New Straits Times Press (M)Bhd, buys 20 per cent of CIMB. Bank of Commerce is listed on the Main Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange 1991 Bank Of Commerce merges with UAB to create a new commercial bank, Bank of Commerce (M) Berhad (BOC). Simultaneously, Bank of Commerce Berhad becomes the holding company and is renamed Commerce Asset-Holding Berhad 1999 On 1 October 1999, BOC merges with Bank Bumiputra Malaysia Berhad and changes its name to Bumiputra-Commerce Bank Berhad 2005 BCB intergrates with CIMB
